DataBar Expanded & Stacked Options

Barcode Information | Tutorials | Examples

The DataBar Expanded Barcode specification is used in IDAutomation Barcode Fonts, Components and Applications to create a DataBar Expanded Barcode. This barcode type can encode the 14-digit GTIN along with several GS1 Application Identifiers in a single symbol. It is also commonly used to encode coupon data. Parentheses must be used around each Application Identifier in the DataToEncode according to the DataBar Expanded rules as shown in Fig. 1-3 below.

A DataBar Expanded Stacked barcode symbol is created by reducing the “Segments” property to a low, even value, such as 4, 6 or 8. The number of segments chosen may produce multiple rows.

  • Using the DataBarExpanded option with a feature level 9 or greater font encoder returns text formatted to the DataBar Expanded 34 font. A DataBar Expanded Stacked barcode symbol may also be easily created with this option by reducing the Segments property to a low even value, such as 4 or 6.
  • Using the DataBarExpanded option in all Components and Applications will produce a barcode image that includes all applicable start and stop digits with checksum characters when required.

This barcode type is easily read and verified with the IDAutomation DataBar USB Barcode Scanner.
